There are quests, and then there are testaments.
The Heritage Quests of Norrath are not errands. They are not the idle tasks of merchants and minor lordlings, dispatched to any sword arm willing to collect coin for the work. They are something older and weightier than that. They are echoes. Each one traces its lineage back to the earliest age of this world, to deeds once performed by those who walked Norrath before the cataclysm reshaped it, before the Shattering divided the sky and scattered the peoples of this realm to their separate survivals. The items these quests seek to recover, restore, or reforge are not mere equipment. They are relics of a world that no longer exists in the form it once held.
To undertake a Heritage Quest is to reach backward through time with both hands.
These journeys will carry you across many lands. A single chain may wind through Antonica, descend into the depths of forgotten ruins, surface in the shadowed corridors of Freeport, and demand still more of you before it yields its reward. Some may be walked alone by those of sufficient experience and temperament. Others will call for companions, for the particular darkness they lead into is not meant to be faced without allies at your back. The Society encourages both approaches. Walk with a brother or sister when you can. The bonds forged in difficult places are among the most enduring.
What awaits those who see these trials through is more than an artifact. The Sages who keep record of such deeds grant titles to those who have proven themselves through these histories. Five completed chronicles earns you the mark of Treasure Hunter. Ten brings the designation of Lore Seeker. Twenty names you Relic Keeper. Thirty, Artifact Raider. These are not vanities. They are acknowledgments, inscribed into the record of Norrath itself, that you have done the difficult work of remembering.
Below, the Society has assembled a curated selection of Heritage Quests considered essential for any adventurer who walks beneath our banner. They have been chosen not merely for their challenge or their reward, but for the depth of story they carry and the manner in which they illuminate the age that came before.
A word of counsel before you begin. Many of these questlines share their paths. Certain steps overlap, and the wise adventurer will consult the great archives before setting out, that they may walk two roads at once where the journey permits it. To travel the same dungeon twice for want of preparation is a costly inefficiency the Society does not recommend.
Take your time within these chapters. Read what is placed before you. Let the world speak in the voice it has been given. When you have completed your road, set down what you experienced. The Society will see it preserved among our chronicles, that those who come after may know what manner of adventurer walked this path before them.
The age that is gone left these threads behind for a reason.
