Guild Rules

To All Members of The Norrath Secret Society,

What is set down upon these pages is not the work of a single season, nor the decree of a restless hand seeking to impose its will. These are the laws that have held the Norrath Secret Society together across the long ages of this world, through the rise and fall of kingdoms, through the shifting of allegiances and the turning of eras. They were not written to burden the worthy. They were written to protect what we have built, and to ensure that what endures today shall endure still in the ages to come.
Read them. Know them. Let them be the measure by which you carry yourself within these halls.
And know this: The Keeper of the Veil does not stand apart from those she leads. Any member who seeks a clearer understanding of what is written here, or who carries a question the words have not answered, is welcome to bring it forward. Merlo will hear you. That, too, is the way of this Society. We have not lasted this long by accident.
Seek. Discover. Endure.

Article I
On Fellowship and Conduct

All who dwell beneath the Society's banner shall treat their brothers and sisters with the regard owed to a trusted ally. Cruelty without purpose, mockery of a fellow member's choices or abilities, and deliberate discord within our halls are offenses against the guild's oldest tradition. We are a fellowship before we are anything else. Conduct yourself accordingly, whether in whispered counsel, open guild chat, or the wider realms of Norrath beyond our shadow.

Article II
On Absence and the Pace of Life

The Society places no clock upon your wall and no shame upon your absence. Life beyond these lands is real, and we honor it. Members may step away for seasons at a time and return to open doors. No explanation is required, and none shall be demanded. The only exception is this: if you know your absence will be long, a word left with an officer is a courtesy the guild remembers kindly. Silence alone is no sin. Disappearance without farewell, when farewell was possible, is a small discourtesy, and the Society notices small things.

Article III
On Allegiance and Alignment

The Norrath Secret Society extends its shadow over all souls, whether they walk in the light of Qeynos or beneath the towers of Freeport. No alignment, race, or creed is barred from our fellowship. The Society has always been a house of many roads. What you are matters less than how you carry yourself among us. Bring your full self to these halls. The veil covers all alike.

Article IV
On Characters and Progression

Every character, whether a seasoned shadow or a fresh recruit, is counted as a full member of the Society. There are no lesser ranks for alternate characters, no separate ledgers for those who walk at the side of a primary. Each name you bring into our halls stands on its own merits. Rank advances through Guild Status Points earned by that character's deeds alone. The path is open to all who would walk it.

Article V
On the Invitation of New Members

Every member of the Society, regardless of rank, carries the right to extend an invitation to those they deem worthy of our fellowship. This trust is not given lightly, and it should not be exercised lightly. Those who join our ranks become part of something old and deliberate. When you open the door of the Society to another soul, you vouch for them by that act. Choose well, and choose with the guild's character in mind.

Article VI
On Disputes and Grievances

Conflicts between members shall not be aired in guild chat as theater for the unwilling. A member with a grievance shall bring it to a Nightblade or Shadow Councilor, who will hear it in the manner befitting officers of this Society. Disputes carried into the open halls and left to fester there are a corrosion upon fellowship. Bring your trouble to those appointed to bear it. The Shadow Council exists for many reasons. This is among them.

Article VII
On the Pursuit of Lore and Discovery

The Society does not exist to rush the end of things. We exist to understand them. Members are encouraged to explore questlines neglected by the world, to pursue crafting mastery, to lock their progression and walk the old roads with patience and intent. There is no shame in slowness when slowness is deliberate. There is no glory in haste when haste discards what is worth finding. Play as the Fates have granted you, and find the wonder in it.

Article VIII
On the Authority of The Keeper Of The Veil

The Keeper of the Veil holds final authority in all matters of the guild. Merlo's word, when it is given, is the word of the Society. The Shadow Council advises and acts in her name. Officers govern with her trust. This is not tyranny. It is the spine that has held this fellowship upright across the long years of Norrath's history. Those who find themselves unable to accept this arrangement are free to seek fellowship elsewhere. The Society holds no member against their will, and no grievance against those who depart with dignity.
